Tim O’Reilly: Sell out or Leadership? April 9, 2007

Did Tim O’Rielly sell out the blogosphere for short term conference gain or is it industry leadership? That is what came to mind this morning when I read his ‘code of conduct for the nasty blogosphere’.
I’ve never met the man named Tim O’Reilly so I can’t comment on his motivations. I can comment on my experiences with watching him in the industry. He is almost invisible outside of his conferences. In fact most of the people building this industry aren’t invited to his events.
I think that his latest proposal or draft is more of a sell out rather than industry leadership. I agree with Jeff Jarvis. Tim O’Reilly’s draft makes the blogoshere seem broken and misguided. If he was actively involved he’d know that it’s working. Anyway I’m sure another panel at a conference will be created for this topic.
Just what we need – more panels about how to fix the internet and less active participation. Thanks for the thoughts John and for being an active participant.
