This video shot by Kara Swisher who moderated the panel about the downturn got this gem from John Doerr.
His point #8 – Sell and being in Selling mode or ABC – Always be selling – if not hit the bricks pal. Of course the other points are great, but what will make the difference and be the biggest game changer for startups is closing business- Business Development. I posted the same advice on Oct 10 – thanks for reading John Doerr
Here is the Kara video, but first stay and enjoy my two favorite sales motivation videos from YouTube. I wonder if the same tone was passed along from the VCs to their portfolio companies.
Question: what does it take to do a startup??
Here is the sales parody from Few Good Men
Excellent points, thanks for the post. As an entrepreneur I have to concur wholeheartedly.
“The leads are weak? You’re weak!” There is no better lesson on business taught by Hollywood than those eight minutes of Glenngary Glenross.
I will take Doerr’s advise very seriously.
Great post John. Love the GlenGarry spot. Startups have always been hard and not for the faint of heart. Today’s climate will separate players and pretenders. We continue to invest aggressively in these times.
Hello, many, many thanks for taking the time to share.. It was useful for my team. Thanks for all of your hard work!
