Google’s Operating System 2.0 Plan August 29, 2006

sany0056.JPGBeing so close to keyword search and navigation bus for almost 10 yrs it is so obvious to me the plans that Google is taking.   Google is an Internet 2.0 and Web 2.0 company.  They want to create a new operating system and are moving fast.

If you look at what big leading players are doing (Intel, Google, and others) it becomes pretty clear.  The ‘cloud’ is a commodity and it is a global ‘run time’ environment.  The companies that will dominate will be the ones who can bridge the low levels of the networks stack with the user presentation layer (apps and search).

Google has the dominate user marketshare and has plenty of money, talent, and ambition to make it happen.  However the task to dominate in the enterprise will not be a ‘cake walk’.  SAP, IBM, and others have been moving their software stacks to a service model.  Google’s handwaving about its intentions needs to be backed up with good products.

The enterprise guys Steve Gillmor, Dan Farber, and Nick Carr chime in.
