Scoble and Sun Microsystems – The issue of breaking news

Don’t miss Robert Scoble’s story on Sun Microsystems new blade server 6200 series at Podtech.net. He was there last night and he actually broke the news on these new servers.

But what does it actually mean to break news? Who picks up what news/media from where? What gets attention on the Web? What will journalism look like in the Web 2.0-world? Check out Roberts interesting post on Techmeme versus Google News.

Much of it comes down to the algorithms written to rank the news. And, as always, there is the issue of storytelling. Connections, interesting topics and good storytellers makes – well – good stories that many people read, view, share and link to. The tough job is for the news sites and the algorithms to keep up with and recognize all the outlets for news today (from traditional media going online to bloggers, corporations, start-ups, commentators working in different media in different parts of the world). Now that’s a challenge!
