This video is dedicated the Creative Commons and all the artists out there.

And there won’t be snow in Africa..This Christmas time.
The greatest gift they’ll get this year -is life

This classic 1984 Band Aid video started a revolution.  Where is the blogger version of this.  I attended Live Aid in 1985 in Philly.  Seems like we need one these days.   Maybe Eric Rice and top bloggers can do one.  By the way I used this video with YouTube’s permission – “Feed the World with Ideas and Content”.

At Christmas time,
there’s no need to be afraid.
At Christmas time,
we let in light and we banish shade.

And in our world of plenty,
We can spread a smile of joy.
Throw your arms around
the world at Christmas time.

But, say a prayer,-
To pray for the other ones.
At Christmas Time, it’s
hard but when you’re not having fun.
There’s a world outside your window
and it’s a world of dread and fear,
Where the only water flowing is
the bitter sting of tears.
And the christmas bells that
ring there are the clanging
chimes of doom.
Well tonight thank God it’s them
-instead of you.

And there won’t be snow in Africa
This Christmas time.
The greatest gift they’ll get this year
-is life.. Ooh..
Where nothing ever grows, no rain
or river’s flow.
Do they know it’s Christmas time at all?

Here’s to you, raise your glass for everyone
And here’s to them underneath that burning sun.
Do they know it’s Christmas time at all?

Feed the world.
Feed the world.
Feed the world.
Let them know it’s Christmas Time.

Feed the world.
Let them know it’s Christmas Time.

Feed the world.
Let them know it’s Christmas Time.

Feed the world.
Let them know it’s Christmas Time.

Flashback… Thanks for the reminder. We read about the “charity” that is provided, but I wanted to know the economic / financial value of this effort.

I found between 1999 and YE 2006, THE BAND AID CHARITABLE TRUST has received revenues of £24,656,052 (~US$49,626,000) and had expenditures of £15,787,830 (~US$$31,779,000).

Sir Bob Geldof (most of us probably know him for his role in Pink Floyd The Wall movie), head of the Trust, signed his name to the 2006 audit report that shows:

2006 spending on grants totaling £4,999,391 (2005 -£8,797,811). The activities to be funded by Band Aid grants fall into four main categories: Food Security and Livelihood Projects (£900,000); Health Improvement: (£670,000); Education and Assistance for Children; Water and Sanitation: (£2,800,000); Fundraising activities. They also reported holding “an emergency fund of £5 million in reserve” for natural disaster or humanitarian crisis in or around Ethiopia.
